What is berberine?

Berberine is a plant compound found in several botanicals and has a history of medicinal use.

What does the evidence say?

NCCIH summarizes a 2021 review of 46 studies involving 4,158 participants that reported possible benefits for blood glucose, insulin resistance and lipid metabolism in people with type 2 diabetes. NCCIH also highlights important limitations: many studies were conducted in Chinese populations, results varied, and some studies were poor quality.

Safety and interactions

Reported side effects include nausea, diarrhea, bloating and constipation. NCCIH says berberine may interact with medicines and should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What this means for BloodArmor

BloodArmor lists berberine HCl, but evidence about berberine alone is not proof that BloodArmor as a finished formula produces the same outcomes.
